When we spend a lot of time with someone or something, we usually take it for granted. We forgot when and how we got there. How patient we were before getting it. And the possibility of losing it overnight.
I started seeing this when I moved to Turkey back in 2011. Things that I took for granted disappeared overnight. My shared high-end bed, the 32” TV, the most delicious meals cooked by my mum, and all. By the time I graduated, things still kept disappearing. They all vanished and from scratch, I started getting one thing at a time.
Now, if you think about it, it’s normal. Anyone in this world (including my parents and yours) were in the same spot years ago. And they started from scratch. But for us, when we started realizing what surrounds us, we found everything in place. And we took it for granted.
Nowadays, we lost our ability to wait and we want to be satisfied immediately. This is due to the way technology has evolved. Now, more than ever, we are satisfied in no time. You want to eat? Simple just order food from your phone. Not sure if your friend received your message? Simple you’ll know by the blue marks. Want to search an information? Simple you Google it. You want a taxi? No worries there is an app for that.
As we can see, the way technology works pushed us to think this is how it should be in the real world too. As a result, we expect to get whatever we want in a short period of time. And we want everything to be perfect from the first time. But, this is not how it works!
I came to realize that in real life, nothing is easy. Everything takes time. And perfection needs practice and dedication.
